Introduction to the blog

This blog is created by Shreyash Bhattarai and Ahmad Akhtar as a part of a project assigned by Mrs. Yamashita for the Futures class. It describes a poem called "The Teen Creed" in depth.

The poem is as follows:

Don't let your parents down, for it was they who brought you up.
Be humble enough to obey today, for someday you may give the orders.
Choose companions with care, for YOU become what, they are.
Guard your thoughts, for what you think, YOU ARE!
Choose only a date that would make a great mate.
Be the master of your habits, or they will soon master you.
Don't ever be a show-off when you drive, for when you drive with care YOU will always, ARRIVE!
Don't ever allow the crowds to pressure you, for when you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything!
Always remember, the purpose of life, is a life full of purpose.

Don't let your parents down, for it was they who brought you up.

Your parents were the ones who raised you and introduced you to this life so you should always respect them and think them as your god.

Be humble enough to obey today, for someday you may give the orders.

You have to obey the ones who are above you. They may be your boss, a team leader or a teacher. If you do not, you will go in the wrong direction and mess up yourself.
In order to get respect from the ones below you, you have to respect the ones above you.

Choose companions with care, for YOU become what, they are.

Your friends influence your habit and your behavior a lot. You will be a lot similar to your friends.

If they do drugs, you have a very high chance of doing it too and if they are smart, you may get some help from them which might raise your grades. So choose the right friends.

Guard your thoughts, for what you think, YOU ARE!

Do not let anyone change your mind easily and go along with that person's idea. In life, there are many people that discourage you. If you believe that person, you will get down.

For instance, you miss couple of shots in basketball and a guy tells you that you suck. If you think that you do suck, you will never get better and you will suck!

Choose only a date that would make a great mate.

Your dates can make you do something good or bad for you. They may raise your grades or they may force you to have sex. They might affect your reputation and respect. So choose the right date.
Choose someone who you can share your feelings with and who is your "type".

Be the master of your habits, or they will soon master you.

This quote means that only you are responsible for controlling your habits and doing what is right and not wrong. You have your own choice. For example, right now, you have two choices, work hard in school or in sports, whatever you want to be, or mess around. If you decide to work hard right now for like 8 years, you wont have to work hard in Mc Donalds 50 years and if you decide to mess around, you will work hard for 50 years.

Don't ever be a show-off when you drive, for when you drive with care YOU will always, ARRIVE!

If you show-off while driving, you will put yourself in a risk of an accident, which might cost you your life and the life of innocent people. And you WILL regret later.

Think about if someone showing off while driving hits your parents' car and they die. You will want to kill the person who did it. Driving fast won't even benifit you because you reach only a little faster. But you have a lot of chances of accident.

Like if you drive 60 miles per hour, that means you can travel 60 miles in one hour and if you speed it up to 75 mph, you will travel 15 more miles per hour, it seems like a lot of difference but you dont usually travel 60 miles. So if your house is 10 miles away, speeding can only save a minute or a two. So that is a stupid thing to do.

Don't ever allow the crowds to pressure you, for when you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything!

All people have fears that "what might people say?" You should try to ignore that fear and speak up for what is right. For example, if somebody is bullying someone, you can stop him. Don't care about what other people think if you are doing the right thing.

"Stand up for what is right even if you are standing alone."

Always remember, the purpose of life, is a life full of purpose.

Life is filled with obstacles and barriers. Everyone faces hardships in their life. We also have happy moment in our life.
So basically, life's purpose is to tackle the obstacles and go along, and still be happy with your life.
